Specifically, the S1H branch of the Asian American gateway system AAG, which was frequently cut off, that is, the section connecting Ho Chi Minh City, was cut off again. In addition, the S1I section connecting Vietnam and Hong Kong failed on December 22, and the repair is expected to be completed in mid-January.
The AAE-1 submarine cable system connecting Asia, Africa and Europe was cut off last month and is expected to be repaired on January 22-27.
The Intra Asia submarine fiber optic cable system connecting Southeast Asia was also cut off last month and is expected to be repaired before January 29th to February 3rd.
It is reported that the problems of these three submarine cable systems have caused a 30% loss of Vietnam's international Internet transmission capacity.
Vietnam Telecom said that with the end of the maintenance work, most of the capacity will be restored before the Lunar New Year holiday on January 25. After the repair of the three submarine cables is completed, the Internet connection service in Vietnam will be fully restored.
However, Vietnam Telecom also revealed that the maintenance plan may change according to sea weather conditions.
Vietnam currently has six submarine cable systems and a 120 Gb channel that runs through mainland China.
The US$560 million AAG submarine cable system was put into use in November 2009 and can handle more than 60% of Vietnam’s international Internet traffic. The system runs more than 20,000 kilometers, connecting Southeast Asia and the United States, via Brunei, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
